Full Description
17th century building identified during excavations at Long Wire Street, 1979. All that survived of this building were the usual remains of structures found at the rear of houses at this time. The walls incorporated low mortared plinths made mainly of septaria rubble with some peg-tile and ragstone. Post-Roman brick was absent. Of the two oven floors recovered one was almost completely intact. A drain built of peg tile led eastwards into the main part of the building. Its sides were formed of at least seven courses of tile and the floor a single layer.<1>
