Full Description

The earliest post-Roman activity on the site was the robbing of some of the Roman foundations in the 11th -12th centuries, followed by the digging of many pits. Probably all of these (F7, F146, F213, F224, F227, F235, F269, F277 &F289) were over 1.5m deep and had nearly vertical sides. They may have been cess pits in which case they would point to occupation on the street frontage.<1>

A medieval cess pit was also identified near CAT Building 146 (MCC1123) during the watching brief.<2>
