Full Description
A Roman building identified during excavations at Long Wyre Street, 1979. The building is poorly understood; it seems that around the end of the 3rd century, building 146 (MON624) was demolished and replaced by a less substantial structure. The building remains consist of three shallow slots, some postholes and some stake holes. Two of the slots cut through the Period 5 (c150-c275/300) tessellated pavements. It is possible that these features represent the late use of building 146 however, the excavator argues that the contrast in building style with the earlier structures indicated a complete rebuilding. <1>
