Full Description
Roman building identified during excavations at Long Wyre Street, 1979. The foundations of this building were of coursed septaria and ragstone set in hard yellow mortar. They were cut into backfilled robber trenches dug to remove the foundations of CAT Building 143 (MCC1118). The southern part of the western foundation was enlarged to 1.9m wide. The reason for this arrangement is obscure. Two rooms were discernible but the floors of both had been destroyed in the 19th century when the ground level along the street frontage had been reduced. The south side of Room 2 was probably delineated by an east-west foundation of septaria set in a shelly mortar.<1>
