Full Description
A Roman building dating to c.AD 75-100 excavated at the Long Wyre Street Site, 1979. The west wall of CAT Building 141 contained a stone and mortar plinth built of coursed septaria rubble overlying a gravel-filled trench. The plinth had at least two buttresses on the west side and at least one on the east. The internal partitions were walls which incorporated timber ground plates, the presence of which was indicated by breaks in the occupation layers rather than slots. A hearth (F266) made of tile and brick lay adjacent to the line of internal partition F257 projected northwards as if it had been set against the east wall of a room.<1>
