Description

Four trial trenches were excavated in an area to the west and north-west of Victoria Chase ahead of redevelopment of the site for an office block? The trenches were dug entirely by JCB and were small due to the frequency with which concrete slab foundations were encountered. Roman deposits found during the trenching suggest the possible location of a building, with gravelled yard and midden/dump at the rear (However the excavator felt that the 'gravel yard' could be natural and that the ?Roman building feature could be modern)<1>.
