Description
The owners of King Coel's Kitchen invited Philip Crummy of the Colchester Archaeological Trust to direct a JCB hired at their expense, in the digging of some trial trenches to establish the nature of the feature. Several long trenches were dug into the bottom and sides of the site and it was clear that the kitchen is a former gravel pit.<1>
