Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in June 2020 during ground works for small side and rear extensions. A total of just under 17m of 500mm wide x 1100mm deep foundation trench were excavated under supervision on the northern, eastern, southern and western sides of the planned extension areas. The trenches revealed 300mm of topsoil over 300-450mm of sandy subsoil below which the natural glaciofluvial deposit was orange silty sand with flints. In addition a 900mm x 1300mm and 1000mm deep soakaway was mechanically excavated 5m from the south-eastern of the extension footprint and this revealed a similar deposit profile. No archaeological features or finds were revealed durin the work.<1>
