Description
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in June 2020 during the groundworks for a new drainage pipe. The works comprised the excavation of a trench to accommodate the pipe, 8.5m long x 0.5m wide x 0.25m deep and a pit to accommodate a pipe dividing device, 0.9m x 1m x 1.2m deep. The groundworks occurred through topsoil (L1, c.1.05m thick) and natural sands (L2, medium yellow/brown sand). No archaeological remains were defined.<1>
The work followed a trial-trenched evaluation in February 2020 (ECC4429).
NB. Updated report approved 7/9/20 - results need to be incorporated.
