Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by John Newman in April 2020 during ground works for a detached annex building (28m of 500mm wide x 1000mm deep foundation trench). The deposit profile revealed comprised 300mm of topsoil above 400mm-600mm of sandy subsoil and the natural glaciofluvial deposit being orange sand with flints. The work did not reveal any archaeological features except a concrete lined tank of early-mid 20th century date, which could possibly be the entrance to a small WWII air raid shelter, and the few stray finds in the upcast spoil were of recent date.<1>
