Description
A magnetometer survey (fluxgate gradiometer) was conducted by Bartlett-Clark in May 2019 over 3.48ha on land to the north of Colchester Road, West Bergholt, in order to inform a planning application for residential devepment.<1>
The survey data plots indicated the presence of a number of subsurface features or disturbances, but they appear to be either minor or insubstantial in character, or else of clearly non-archaeological origin. The only substantial or extensive finding was a broad weak feature visible in the grey scale plot. This aligns with extant field boundaries at each side of the field, and so probably represents a shallow infilled ditch or hollow on the line of a former boundary. No other linear features representing former ditches, boundaries or enclosures were identifiable in the survey.
