Description

A magnetometer survey (fluxgate gradiometer) was conducted by Sumo Surveys in September 2019 over c.7.2ha on land to the north of Coach Road, Great Horkesley, in order to inform a planning application for residential devepment.<1> No definite archaeological anomalies were identified, although a few linear trends of uncertain origin have been mapped. A few old field boundaries have been detected, plus land drains, evidence for modern ploughing and areas of natural variation. A pre-determination trial-trenched evaluation was subsequently carried out by Archaeology South-East in January-February 2020 (ECC4431).
