Description

Archaeological monitroing and recording was undertaken by John Newman in January 2020 at 21 Queens Road, Colchester, during groundworks for a rear extension. A total of 48m of foundation trench, 500mm wide x 1000mm deep, was excavated. The deposit profile comprised 350mm of topsoil over 650mm of clean sandy subsoil under which the locally occurring glaciofluvial deposit was orange sand. No features were revealed in the excavated trenches and the only finds in the largely clean subsoil deposit were small fragments of brick and tile of post-medieval date.<1>
