Description

A trial-trenched evaluation, comprising six trenches (100m in total x 1.80m wide), was undertaken in June 2020 in advance of the erection of five new dwellings within the rear garden of Hillcroft, 144 Braiswick. The trenches were excavated through topsoil (L1, 0.16-0.42m thick, soft/friable dark brown sandy silt) and subsoil (L2, 0.03-0.37m thick, firm, dry light yellow/brown sandy-silt) onto natural (L3, light yellow/orange sandy-silt), encountered at c.0.26-0.76m below current ground level). A medieval or post-medieval pit F5 (in T6), which produced five sherds (349g) of peg-tile, a modern pit, an undatable pit or posthole and also an undatable posthole were revealed.<1>
