Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out by Groundworks Archaeology in November 2019 prior to proposed development on land at The King’s Arms Public House, Broad Green. The evaluation, which comprised a single trench 10m long x 1.80m wide, revealed severe truncation from modern services and a large soakaway. A concrete slab covered the majority of the trench, overlying subsoil up to 0.09m thick. This sealed the natural clay. A large ditch on a WSW ENE alignment was identified running through the trench. This ditch can be dated to the early 20th century (although an earlier origin cannot be ruled out) and may represent the original boundary to the adjacent agricultural field. It is likely to have served as a drainage ditch.<1>
