Description
Archaeological monitroing and recording was undertake by Colchester Archaeological Trust in March 2020 during groundworks for a new rear extension (an triangular area 5m in size was stripped to a depth of 0.23-0.41m. Three layers were recorded. Topsoil (L1, c.0.10m thick) sealed an accumulation layer (L2, 0.11-0.15m thick), below which natural (dark yellow/orange/brown sandy-silt) was encountered at a depth of c.0.25m below current ground level. No archaeological features were revealed; a single sherd (41g) of post-medieval stoneware was recovered from accumulation layer L2.<1>
