Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out in June 2020 during the excavation of new foundation trenches, measuring 24.2m long x 0.6m wide x 1m deep, for a garage conversion and an extension (prior to this, an area measuring 31.6m² was reduced by 0.25-0.5m for the new extension). Excavations occurred through topsoil (L1, c.0.2m thick), a layer of redeposited sand and gravel (L2, c.0.15m thick) and subsoil (L3, c.0.2m thick) onto natural (L4, orange/brown silty-sand with frequent gravel). A ditch F1, aligned WNW-ESE and 0.88m wide x 0.34m deep, was revealed by the groundworks but did not produce any dating evidence.<1>
