Description

An archaeological evaluation comprising three trial-trenches, each 10m long by 1.8m wide, was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in September 2019 on land adjacent to 8 Upland Road, West Mersea, in advance of the construction of three detached single-storey dwellings with a new access road, fencing and landscaping. The trenches were excavated through topsoil (L1, 0.1-0.13m thick), and subsoil (L2, c.0.09-0.29m thick) onto natural (L3). There were no archaeological features in T1 or T2. Only a modern pit and a natural feature or tree-throw were uncovered in T3.<1>
