Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in September 2019 at Broomhouse, Langham, during excavation of footings for new extensions. The footing trenches measured c.0.5m in width and were to cut depths of between 1m to 1.2m. The exposed soil profile comprised c.0.3m of topsoil over a sterile pale brown/grey layer of sandy silt c.0.2m in thickness. This overlay a natural subsoil of orange sand and gravel. Only one feature was noted, a modern soakaway which was located within the footing for the western of the two extensions. No other interventions, other than occasional modern services, were identified and no artefacts were recovered.<1>
