Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust during groundworks for a rear extension (foundation trenches totalling 15.5m long x 0.5m wide x 1m deep). Excavations occurred through modern topsoil (L1, c.0.21-0.25m thick) and subsoil (L2, c.0.56-0.6m thick) onto natural (L3, orange sand), encountered at a depth of 0.81-0.83m below current ground level. A single modern drain was encountered and no archaeological features or finds were defined.<1>
