A draft report has been received but not a revised version. A trial-trenched evaluation, comprising 53 trenches each 30m long x 1.8m wide across a 9.5ha. Area (a 3% sample), was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology East in July 2019. The fieldwork identified archaeological remains in 26 of the trenches. Eight sub-circular pits were also revealed with charcoal-rich fills, distributed across the site with no discernable pattern or grouping (31, Trench 7; 35, Trench 8; 48, Trench 15; 52, Trench 23, 10 and 12, Trench 29; 19, Trench 30; 88, Trench 49). None of these features contained any securely datable finds with only a single fragment of burnt flint recovered. A number of other discrete pits were defined. Evidence of a 19th century field system was also revealed. In Trench 53, in the southeastern corner of the site, post-medieval rubble, possibly from a demolished brick kiln, was found in a large pit 104. This pit was later cut by the foundation trench for a brick-built structure, possibly representing the in situ remains of a brick kiln or related structure. These remains suggest the presence of nearby brick or tile-making activity. The ceramic building material from both the demolished brick kiln structure within the pit and the later brick-built structure, suggests activity during the early 18th to early 19th-century.<1> The evaluation followed a geophysical survey by Magnitude surveys (ECC4355).<2>
