Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertakne by Colchester Archaeological Trust in Februayr 2002 during groundworks for a new conservatory. An area of 14.4m² was reduced by 0.8m and foundation trenching 8.4m long, 0.7m wide x 0.2m deep was then excavated along the northern inner boundary of the stripped area. Four layers were recorded. Topsoil (c.0.18m thick) overlay modern sub-base (c.0.05m thick) and hoggin (c.0.50m thick) and subsoil. The groundworks did not penetrate the subsoil and no archaeological features or finds were defined.<1>
