Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by John Newman in September 2019 during the groundworks for a new extension. A total of 13m of foundation trench was excavated, 500mm wide x 700mm deep, along the east side of the house. Just to the west side of the trench, disturbance could be seen from an existing 20th century ceramic drainage pipe run while on its east side the deposit profile comprised 250mm of topsoil above 400mm of sandy subsoil, which contained a few small fragments of ceramic building debris of 20th century date. Below the subsoil, the locally occurring glaciofluvial deposit was orange sand. No archaeological features were revealed.<1>
