Description

Archaeological monitoring was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in November 2018 during the groundworks for the erection of a side and rear extension and associated groundworks, comprising foundation trenching totalling 20m in length x 0.6m wide and 1.1m deep, two soakaways measuring 1m x 1m in area x 1.5m deep and drainage trenches totalling 11.5m long x c.0.25m wide. Three layers were recorded. Topsoil (L1, c.0.13-0.18m thick) overlay subsoil (L2, c.0.33-0.36m thick) which in turn sealed natural (L3, orange sand), encountered at a depth of c.0.5m below current ground level. No archaeological remains were encountered.<1>
