Description

An archaeological evaluation, comprising five trial-trenches each 20m long x 1.80m wide, in advance of the determination of a planning application for a new school building, was carried out by Archaeological Solutions at Langham Oaks Academy in October 2018. Natural was encountered at c.0.40-0.45m in depth below current ground level. The evaluation revealed features (post holes and ditches) within each trench. Ditch F1003 (Trench 5) is likely the E/W aligned field boundary shown on the 1838 Tithe map and succeeding 19th century OS maps. Finds were sparse. Ditch F1017 (Trench 1) contained unidentifiable iron fragments and post hole F1007 (Trench 2) contained a fragment (1g) of CBM.<1>
