An archaeological evaluation, comprising two trial-trenches each 8m long x 1.8m wide, was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in September 2018 at 273 Old Heath Road, Colchester, in advance of the construction of two new bungalows and associated works. They were excavated through topsoil (L1, 0.3-0.56m thick) and subsoil (L2, 0.24-0.3m thick) onto natural sands and gravels (L3). The evaluation revealed two natural features or tree-throws and an area of modern disturbance. No archaeological remains were defined.<1>
