A detailed magnetometer survey (fluxgate gradiometer) was conducted by Sumo Surveys in September 2018 over approximately 9.1 ha of grassland on Land off Barbrook Way, Tiptree.<1> No definite archaeological remains were identified. Possible ditch-type anomalies were detected, and are of uncertain origin; they could be archaeological, natural or agricultural. Evidence of ploughing was visible in one area, while the remaining responses included areas of natural magnetic variation and disturbance from ferrous objects. The geophysical survey was followed in 2019 by trial-trenched evaluation by Cotswold Archaeology (ECC4315).<2>
