Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust during groundworks for a new extension (12.6m of foundation trenching, 0.6m wide x 1.4m deep) and associated soakaway (2.0 x 1.4m in area x 1.9m deep). Groundworks defined three layers. A demolition layer (L1, c.0.03-0.08m thick) sealed subsoil (L2, c.0.91-1m thick), beneath which lay natural (L3, orange sand), encountered at a depth of 0.94-1.04m below current ground level. No archaeological features or finds were revealed.<1>
