Description

A limited archaeological strip and map excavation was carried out at 84 Maldon Road, Tiptree, by Colchester Archaeological Trust in August 2018 for a service trench through the footprint of a new access road; unforntaultely, the other groundworks had been already completed. The groundworks revealed three post-medieval/modern features (a post-medieval pit, a brick foundation which formed part of Brook House, and a 19th- or early 20th century ditch) and an undated pit with a post-hole cut into its base.<1> An earlier trial-trenching evaluation conducted in January 2018 revealed post-medieval and modern remains, many associated with the demolished 17th-century Brook House (ECC4122).<2>
