Description

In July 2018, Britannia Archaeology undertook a trial-trench evaluation, comprising two trenches measuring 30m x 1.80 and one trench measuring 15m x 1.80m, at Land Adjacent to Heath Lodge, Heath Road, Colchester, in advance of the construction of two new dwellings in the grounds of Heath Lodge.<1> The archaeological evaluation did not encounter any archaeological features within the trial trenches. Some form of post-medieval activity was identified on the site, with the formation of subsoil layer 1001 from the 18th to 19th century, and subsequent formation of topsoil layer 1000 from the 19th century onwards. Natural was defined between c.0.40-0.60m below current ground level.
