Description

A trial trenched evaluation was undertaken in May 2018 in advance of the erection of four new dwellings, cartlodge, garden and log stores. The site had been previously used as a horticultural nursery, in part previously occupied by a brick and glass greenhouse with a concrete floor and in part by an associated car park. Three trenches (each 8.0m long x 1.80m wide) were excavated. All the trenches were very shallow (0.20m deep max.), with topsoil (and probably the upper part of the subsoil) having been previously stripped from the site. The local natural glaciofluvial deposit at the site comprised stiff pale brown clay with flints. No archaeological features were revealed in the trenches.<1>
