Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in September 2018 during the groundworks for an extension, comprising 16.4m of foundation trenches 0.45m wide x 0.9m deep, a 6m drainage trench, 0.3m wide x 0.45m deep, and a soakaway, 1m x 1m x 1.1m deep. The excavations took place through topsoil (L1, 0.6-0.72m thick) and subsoil (L2, 0.2-0.22m thick) into natural sands and gravels (L3, encountered at a depth of 0.84-0.94m below ground level). A modern service was present in one of the foundation trenches. No archaeological features or finds were encountered.<1>
