Description

A Historic England Level 2 historic building recording was undertaken in May 2018, prior to demolition.<1> The original build, likely to date between 1850 and 1870, was of two storeys fronting onto Barrack Street and terraced into the natural slope with a basement level opening out onto the terraced land behind. The original layout was of two interconnected rooms on each floor. A later two storey extension with basement, pre dating 1896, was added to the east and mirrors the original build. The third phase comprised a single storey extension to the west which also has a basement. Originally built as a domestic dwelling the building was converted into a motorbike sales premises in the 1960's which closed down around 2008 since when the building has been derelict. The structure has suffered during this period with numerous incidents of vandalism and at least two minor fires having occurred internally.
