Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust between May 2018 and September 2019 during groundworks for new extensions (foundation trenching totalling 39.1m long and 0.6-1.2m wide was excavated to a depth of 1.1-1.25m.). Three layers were recorded. A modern demolition layer (L1: 0.17-0.36m thick) overlay an accumulation deposit (L2: 0.4-0.58m thick) and natural (L3: medium yellow/orange sand), encountered at a depth of 0.6-0.81m below current ground level. A single undated ?pit F1, 0.8m wide x 0.29m deep, was observed in section.<1>
