Description

A trial trenched evaluation was undertaken in June 2018 in advance of residential of former railway sidings. Two trial trenches (T1 and T2, totalling 30.90m long x 1.8m wide) were excavated in the east part of the development site (outside the area of railway sidings, where the site had been truncated). Significant thicknesses of modern made-ground deposits were encountered in both trenches and modern intrusions in Trench 2. A single archaeological feature of probable late 19th-century date was recorded in Trench 1, below made-ground. Trench 2 was devoid of any archaeological features.<1> A DBA for the development site was compiled by CgMs in 2016 (ECC3587).<2>
