Description

A trial trenched evaluation, comprising 12 30m long x 1.80m wide trenches, was undertaken by Britannia Archaeology in 2018. No features were present within the trenches. However, three joining sherds (29g) of Early Iron Age pottery were recovered from the interface between topsoil 1000 and natural geology in Trench 8. A fragment of agricultural subsoil 1002 survived only in Trench 9 at the north area of the site suggesting it (and possibly any archaeological features) had been removed from the rest of the site during landscaping works in the 1990s. Elsewhere, topsoil overlay the natural, which was encountered c.0.25-0.40m in depth below current ground level.<1>
