Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by John Newman in August 2019 during the erection of a rear extension. A total of 24m of foundation trenches was excavated, 500mm wide x 1200mm deep, following the removal of a former patio surface. The patio surface was 200mm thick with its sub-base and this lay over 1000mm of subsoil over natural orange sand. No archaeological features were revealed, except a concrete foundation of recent date and the only finds in the largely clean subsoil deposit were small fragments of brick and tile of post-medieval date.<1>
