Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust during November and December 2017 the groundworks for new dwelling and associated works (following demolition of existing). The investigations defined topsoil (L1, c.0.4-1.04m thick) above natural (L2, soft, dry light orange sand). In the north-eastern corner of the development area, L1 was sealed by a modern demolition layer (L3, c.0.3-0.4m thick). An undated ditch F1 was observed in section (at an oblique angle) in the southernmost E-W section of foundation trench. A medieval or post-medieval possible pit F2 was also observed in section, c.1.30m in width x 0.4m in depth.<1>
