Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during the groundworks for alterations and extensions (CBC planning application 171548). The work comprised c.19.2m of foundation trenching, measuring 0.6m wide x 1.0m deep, to the rear of the house, and a soakaway measuring 1.2m x 1.2m in area x 1.4m in depth. The foundation trench was excavated through modern topsoil (L1, c.0.3-0.36m thick) over subsoil (L2, c.0.34-0.49m thick) and natural (L3) sands and gravel, encountered at a depth of c.0.68-0.78m below current ground level. A single piece of orange coloured Roman brick/tile was recovered.<1>
