Description

Oxford Archaeology East monitored the excavation of three geotechnical test pits, each c.1.60 x 0.30m in area, and eight windowless sampled boreholes. Six of the Windowless Sampler Boreholes contained archaeological deposits and associated artefacts such as pottery and animal bone, primarily dating to the later Roman period. All three of the Trial Pits contained archaeological deposits (pits were defined in Trial Pits 1 and 2) and features. The pits found in the Trial Pits 1 and 2 contained a high volume of archaeological material, including pottery (173 sherds), ceramic building material (128 fragments), animal bone and iron nails, primarily dating to the later Roman period.<1>
