Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in September 2017 during the groundworks in advance of the construction of side and rear extensions (CBC planning application 171634). c.30m of foundation trenches, 0.5m wide x 0.9-1.1m deep, were dug under archaeological supervision. Modern topsoil (L1, c.0.5m thick) sealed a layer of subsoil (L2). Natural sands (L3) were encountered at a depth of 0.8m in the southern extremity of the trenching. No archaeological finds or features were identified.<1>
