Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in August 2017 during the groundworks for a rear extension (CBC planning application 170073). A foundation trench measuring 13m long x 0.5m wide x 1.7m deep was excavated. It was cut by modern services in its western branch, in the southeastern corner, and along the entire length of its eastern branch. Two layers were recorded. A layer of modern made ground (L1, c.0.47-0.48m thick) sealed a band of natural geological deposits (L2, c.1.19-1.2m thick). No archaeological remains were uncovered.<1>
