Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in October 2017 during the groundworks in advance of the construction of a single-storey rear extension (CBC planning application 170382). The foundation trench (c.17.3m long x 0.5m wide x 0.7m deep) was excavated through three layers. Modern topsoil (L1, c.0.13-0.15m thick) sealed subsoil (L2, c.0.18-0.2m thick) which in turn sealed natural sands (L3). No archaeological features were identified.<1>
