Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in April 2017 by John Newman during the groundworks for a new rear extension (CBC planning application 162389). 12m of foundation trench, 500mm wide x 1200mm deep, was excavated in an area that formerly had been back garden. The exposed deposit profile comprised 400mm of topsoil above 800mm of clean mid brown sandy subsoil onto undisturbed orange sand with flints (natural). A small number of early-mid 1st century AD pottery sherds were recovered as stray finds but no archaeological features were revealed.<1>
