Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in May 2017 during the groundworks for a new rear extension and front porch (CBC planning application 170086). 19.5m of foundation trench, 0.50m wide x 0.95-1.0m deep, was excavated. The foundation for the porch measured 5.7m long x 0.4m in wide x 0.9m deep. The exposed deposit profile comprised 0.18-0.25m of topsoil above c.0.7-0.8m of post-medieval/modern subsoil. Natural sands and gravels were encountered at c.1.0m below ground level. No archaeological features were revealed.<1>
