Description

A fieldwalking survey was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in 2000 of an area 4.76ha. in size, in advance of the construction of a freshwater lake (CBC planning application F/COL/00/1344). The survey was a 10% surface collection achieved by collecting finds in 2m corridors over a 20m grid. The following types of finds were collected: 3 struck prehistoric flints, 19 burnt flints (322g), 5 Roman pot sherds, 6 fragments of Roman brick/tile, 1 medieval pot sherd, 134 post-medieval and modern pot sherds, as well as clay tobacco pipe, peg tile, post medieval and modern brick, fragments of field drains, post-medieval and modern glass, and sundry iron objects.<1>
