Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Colchester Archaeological Trust in May 2017 during the groundworks during the conversion and extension of the garage (CBC planning application 161308). Two foundation trenches were excavated. The first to the rear of the property measured c.5.5m long by 0.4-0.5m wide and 1.8-1.9m deep. The second to the front of the property measured c.2.4m long x 0.5m wide and 1.1-1.2m deep. The groundworks revealed a significant depth (1-1.8m) of modern made-ground above natural, probably resulting from the construction of the housing estate (and/or construction of the A12 bypass). No archaeological remains were defined.<1>
