Description

Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust in May 2017 during the groundworks for the excavation of a new swimming pool (CBC application 170049).<1> The footprint of the swimming pool measured 10m x 5m in area x 1.1-1.2m deep. A layer of dark brown sandy-silt (L1, c.0.67m thick) sealed a band of grey-brown sandy-silt (L2, c.0.41m thick) over natural yellow-orange sand (L3). A single pit was, 1m in diameter x 0.2m deep, was defined in the NW corner of the excavation area. No finds were recovered from the feature.
