A trial-trenched evaluation was undertaken in March 2017 by Archaeology South-East, comprising 20 trenches, each 30m long x 2.0m wide (although, in practice, some of the trenches were cut short) and equating to a 5% sample of the 2.1ha. site (CBC planning application 162302 for residential development of 88 dwellings). Overlying the natural, there was a layer of dark greyish brown silty clay topsoil and turf, c.0.30-0.45m in thickness. No archaeological features were defined in any of the trenches.<1>
