Description
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out during groundworks for the construction of a single storey extension to the current fitness suite (Gymnasium) (CBC planning application 162723). Following the removal of the existing car park surface and crush (L1), 18 pits for foundation pads were excavated by the contractor under archaeological supervision. Each pit measured approximately 2.25m² and were excavated to a depth of 1.1-1.2m deep. No significant archaeological remains were defined and modern layers sealed natural sands and gravels at a depth of c.0.6-0.9m below current ground level.<1>
